So yes, at 60 or beyond, you have every right to take on this new project. Here is how to become a senior model, the qualities required, and our practical advice.

How do you become a senior model?

First step: put together a book (photo portfolio). Call on a professional photographer to bring out your best features and your personality. This book can be printed or digital, and will be used to apply to specialist agencies.

Agencies usually ask for:

  • a few recent photographs

  • your age

  • sometimes your measurements

The criteria for becoming a senior model

Good news: the criteria are very different from those applied to young models. Nobody expects catwalk measurements or unrealistic perfection. Brands are looking for seniors who are:

  • comfortable in their own skin

  • quick to smile

  • at ease with their age

  • photogenic

  • energetic and available for castings

Worth noting: the minimum age to be considered a senior model is generally 40. And patience is essential, because places are limited.

What can a senior model earn?

Rates vary according to your experience and the type of shoot. Here is a typical range (gross):

  • Beginner (half-day): €450 to €850

  • Experienced (half-day): €850 to €1,200

  • Lingerie supplement: +50% of the gross fee

  • Nude supplement: +100% of the gross fee

Agencies generally take 20% of your fee (to cover social security contributions, health insurance and unemployment cover). In France, models have employee status.
